I apologise for the morbid tone of the questions today...
Depending on what you read, the state of the steel industry in the UK, the one final bedrock of manufacturing/production that we have left, is in varying states from 'suffering' to ' being on it's death bed'. A lot of redundancies have been made within Corus/British Steel, and a lot of those redundancies have taken place in areas hard hit in 80s Britain - Teeside, Wrexham and Hull among others.
To be clear, part of the world's problems is that certain countries wealth 'on paper' was not actually true - then once we hit the economic downturn, everyone discovered the wealth was not exactly what was thought - thanks to the financial sector. Steel and other material production is 'real estate' - tangible commodities that definitely give value to the economy. Take that away too, and isn't the country in serious trouble financially?
Worse still, more casualties are expected.
What of the future of British industry? No coal, no shipbuilding, and Steel a mere shadow of it's former glory...
Is heavy industry in the UK beyond repair?
