Does the concept of self-fulling prophecy have any merit at all?

Do you believe that people collectively or individually influence positive or negative outcomes for others over time based on their beliefs or desires? Does human bias play a role in how the targets of the bias perform? Does self-fulfilling prophecy exist?

Or is there no such thing as collectively "steering" others in the direction we perceive them to be headed?
