I just graduated boot camp today, and my Ship's Officer made it very clear that we were not allowed to smoke cigarettes, or we will be discharged... About 5 minutes after leaving the pearly gates, I lit one up. Do they do a swab test after liberty is over? I don't want to get kicked out over something so stupid... If anyone has any information, it would be appreciated very much! Thanks.

When my son graduated boot camp, he was allowed to smoke. I didn't want him to. He is in the Cole ship right now at Great Lakes.

oh they won't kick you out but you can expect to be caught and you can expect to DO BOOT CAMP ALL OVER AGAIN.

so you DELIBERATELY DISOBEYED A DIRECT ORDER and you think there won't be consequences?!

Dave, tell that to the guy that repeated Boot camp over from day one when he got caught doing the same thing when DH graduated. Lost his A school and was sent to the Fleet Undesignated.

If you already graduated and left RTC, don't worry about it. This is probably just a scare tactic in pursuit of that "smokeless Navy" they have been trying to get for more than 20 years now. Even if you still have to go back to RTC before you ship out on orders, I seriously doubt they are going to spend the resources to check if people have been smoking cigarettes.

By the way, don't listen to that tough talk from Mrsjvb either. She is a spouse who likes to talk tough and with authority like she is actually in the service.

EDIT: I did the same thing when I graduated boot camp. I bought a pack of cigs as soon as I got to the airport. Now, at 36 years old and dealing with high blood pressure and reduced lung capacity, that is the one pack of cigarettes that I wish I could take back. It might be a good idea to quit now because it will only get harder.

No, they don't swab you or anything, and I dont think they'll discharge you either...but you probably dont wanna go back smelling like cigarettes either. We didn't get liberty in boot camp, but the berthing we shared with did, and i know some of them smoked...and nothin happened to them :)

you are aloud to smoke in the military, they were going to make it against the rules but they didnt, you are aloud to smoke

i don't know, but exactly what kind of freedom is our military supposed to be fighting for? freedom my a**
