Does the SD memory card reader that comes with the Nintendo DS R4 setup work for all

SD cards? Most R4 setups come with a memory card reader. Does that reader work only for the R4 memory card or can I use the reader for all SD cards regardless of the data on them? It would be nice to kill two birds with one stone and not buy two separate memory card readers.
