My sister, who lives on a farm with many acres of land, had a mountain pony called Billy. He was so big that he was happy to let us both ride him at the same time, but when we did we rode bare back to keep the weight down,we'd let him decide where he wanted to go and he would let us know when he'd had enough by standing still. On day he took us to a field we hadn't been to before,he put his head down, tilted his back and tipped us off very slowly. We had a soft landing as under the carpet of grass was 18inches of mud -he was standing on hard ground ! We laid in the mud laughing too much to move, still in the seated position with my sisters arms still round my waist.Yes he knew exactly where he was going that day.
