Dog Breeding ethical?

I am have to write a "persuasive paper" in English class. I chose the breeding of dogs is bad because it causes hundreds of health problems and diseases for the dogs. but i also have to include a part where i state the other side's arguments.
So basically, what are some arguments FOR the breeding of purebred dogs?
Please no rants for either side, just state the facts or arguments.

I hope you include the pet overpopulation problem and the millions of animals dying abandoned in shelters.

For breeding- "it preserves breeds". That's the big one. We made these breeds, mankind did, now we want to keep them around. To showoff our "creations" I guess.
that's the only excuse I ever hear.
