Dog Lovers- What ever happened at the end of Ol' Yeller?

They shot the Ol'Yeller because he had rabies from protecting the family from a wolf. However, the pup that was his grew up to be just like him so everyone(except Ol'Yeller) lived happily ever after.

Absolutley....like Phoebe in Friends, I always stop the movie before the end so its a happy ending.......
