I mean firstly people that come here and say "you know kids are reading these" -- Um... Well firstly kids shouldn't be here! And if the parents don't like it maybe their kids shouldn't be on it.

On TV Saying how they leave bad words. Well firstly if your kids are that young they shouldn't be watching shows that is in NEED of Censoring.

What do you think?

I AGREE. complaining abt stuff like tht is SO overrated. its been done be4 and if parents keep saying it, it basically becomes meaningless because they said it so many times already..oO". god. gotta hate. =]

there was a question on here a month ago i think saying
'should i not allow my daughter to bring her ipod to school because the teachers say it decreases learning ability?'

or something like that... and its just like OMG!
i just freak out when i hear stuff like that.
if your child has an ipod shes obviously old enough to deal with it herself...
same thing with sensory, if your old enough to understand that what your whatching should be sensored then your old enough to be watching it.
if your 5 watching this stuff, you dont even no what your watching so it doesnt matter...

its this hole Control thing, and its out of hand.
 
I think censorship on ANY terms is a bad idea.

EDIT: how am i a perv for not believing in censorship? It is a parents job to teach their kids right from wrong no doubt, but the ONLY people who should be censoring anything is the parents, not the government, not media watch groups, no one but the parents of the children watching the program or using the internet.

So in a nutshell idiots...I agree.
 
I'm assuming the first answerer is a perv. anyway, I agree that censoring, in some ways, is bad, but for the most part, a lot of kids don't really realise what they are doing or what they are on, so somtimes, if they click the wrong link, or change it to the wrong channel, they end up seeing things they didn't mean to see.
 
I have mixed feelings on censorship. I don't think young people should see violence or sex scenes. Bad language offends me. I work in a junior high. Kids curse constantly on the yard. I don't know if they are saying things they hear in their neighborhoods, trying to act cool, or what. I wasn't brought up that way. It takes a major upsetting event for me to curse. When I hear it on tv at 8 pm, I am bothered. I long for the Brady Bunch days.
In other words, I don't want censorship just for the kids. I want it for me too.
 
Censorship is a tool against our 1st Amendment rights! It allows those who are in any way, shape, or form, offended to decide what is offending. If I bring a Bible into school, if someone complains, what happens? I get told to put away the Bible. If I make a sexual inuendo to one of my friends, and someone overhears it and is offended by it, guess what? I get taken to court. When will the madness stop? This isn't an issue of Republican or Democrat, it's an issue of America. We can't let the minority tell the majority what is right and what is wrong!
 
Yep. Its my job, and in my mind my son's teachers, to show him only what he needs to know and see. Its not the powers that be in the government. My son only watches maybe 1hr of tv a week and that is kids pbs or sprout.

First of all, "firstly" isn't a word.

Second, good parents protect their kids from everything they can. Do you think it's wrong to keep cleaning products out of your kids' reach? Why? Isn't that "censoring" them from it to keep them from being hurt? If a parent doesn't want their kids to cuss, for example, then they need to keep cussing out of their house. If that means buying a filter for the tv or just not watching tv, then so be it.

And even when parents try to keep their kids doing "kid" activities (as opposed to reading Yahoo Answers), it doesn't always necessarily work. Any kid who's old enough to use a computer can figure out a way to get to any website they want to. So if there are 13 year olds answering these questions, it's probably best to assume that a.) their parents don't know they're doing it, or b.) don't see any harm in it.

Unfortunately, YA doesn't require a minimum age for people to go into certain forums. Even if they did, people would lie about their ages.
 
truthfully I think its all just a scapegoat. People keep blaming kids behaviour on the media becuase its easier to blame someone else than take responsibilty for your own parenting. Im only 21. I grew up listening to what older generations call "gangster rap". I love tupac, i love biggie. I watched violent movies. But my mom raised me to know the difference from right nd wrong and never once did I ever do something because I saw it in the media.

I think people need to be more responsible and stop trying to blame everything on something else
 
are you aware that bad language is not exclusive to televison ? where there are people there is bad language.

it is up to the individual parent to monitor the behaviour of thier own child.

it is not up to you to pass judgement on peoples parenting .

If a parent lets their 7 year old watch the Simpsons and complains about the content, then, that is their own fault. The Simpsons has been on long enough for everyone to know that that isn't a child's cartoon. Or if the children are allowed to watch tv after 8 o'clock. It is up to the parents and they have no right to complain.

But if it is during the day and they are watching a kids cartoon and something comes up that isn't child appropriate, then i think the parent has that right.

But i'm with you 100% about the internet. It is the parents responsibility to set up the internet so that their children won't go anywhere where they are not supossed to or it is their responisibility to supervise them. If they are on the puter by themselves (with the parents knowledge) andlooking at adult content, the parents have no one else to blame but themselves.

I know i will take responsibility for my own child, i'm not one of those mothers who blame the media for everything.
