I've been a writer for almost 10 years. A majority of my characters are animals and a smaller percentage are humans which would consist of pet owners, caretakers for exotic animals, antagonists, etc...
Anyway, quite a few of my characters that mixed breed dogs. Like a lot of designer breeds out there they do have 'breed' names i.e. Blood collie (Blood hound/Collie mix), Coy-wolf(Coyote/Wolf mix), you get the idea.
Anyway, I've noticed a lot of dogs such as the puggle, getting discriminated against because they're not a breed recognized with any established kennel club even though there are a few kennel clubs and groups that specialize in mixed breed dogs being registered as established breeds like their parents.
I sometimes wondered if anyone would make a big deal out of that I've come up with breed names for my mixed breed canine cast but then again there's a lot of fictional breeds/species that are well known in pop culture.
I doubt anyone would make a big deal out of this, anyone else think so?
