Downgrading iPhone 3GS back to 3.1.2 from OS4 to Jailbreak?

If you have accidentally updated your iPhone 3GS and can no longer Jailbreak it is possible to downgrade back to its originally 3.1.2 here's the link ....

What I want to know is will it wipe my iphone? And if so, can I sync before hand and fix her up later after?
 
I would downgrade the iphone AFTER you've made a complete backup of your iphone and then re-jailbreak it. I don't believe it would completely wipe it because it doesn't wipe it when you update it, but I would rather be safe than sorry.
