dvd burned with iDVD has no audio?

when trying to burn a .avi file onto a dvd using idvd on my mac the video always works great but there is no sound every time I try. Is there anyway to fix this?

the program is not a trial version and the video im burning is a dvd screener .. it works when i burn with other programs but not with idvd.
 
I'm amending my answer.

Before doing the procedure below, try installing Perian on your system and then create the DVD. See if that doesn't fix the sound issue.

Before you burn the DVD, you'll need to convert the AVI file to another format so that the audio portion is converted to a format that Mac OS X can handle.

To do this, download and install HandBrake on your Mac (it's free).

Start the HandBrake application and choose your AVI file from the initial dialog box that is opened.

After you've chosen your AVI , click on the "Audio & Subtitles" tab and make sure that "Track 2:" is set to "None". Use the default settings for the rest of the settings, then from the File menu option select Start encoding. The encoding will take a while.

Use the new m4v file with iDVD to create your DVD.
