DVD-R vs. DVD+R discs?

Please explain the difference between these discs? Can I use either one to record things off my TIVO? Thanks.
 
Both should work - although i have not tried personally so cannot guarantee.

Both disks are basically the same but with slight differences as to how files are structured on them. DVD-R was around first and works in almost anything but DVD+R is newer and sometimes has compatibility issues with older players etc. TIVO is newish so should be good either way.
