I'm currently researching cars to have as my first. I have pretty much narrowed it down to either

A) Early 90's Saturn SC2

or

B) Late 90's early 00's Saturn SL2

I know a lot about the SL2's. We have/had 2 of them in the family in the past few years.

My question concerns the SC2. First off. I work at a Saturn car dealership. My boss is the one that is helping me find my first car. He will find it. I will buy it and he will fix it up for me if there are any problems. So repairs aren't an issue. I have many connections. From my boss, to the advisors, to the techs themselves.

My questions are as follows:

1. What kind of gas mileage do the SC2's get. I work 25 miles from home. So it's 50 miles round trip.

2. Generally speaking, how are they on insurance rates, with a new driver? I'm planning on paying for my own insurance.

3. What could I expect as far as reliability? I need something that is going to start for me in the -20 degree weather we get here sometimes. I live in Minnesota. Roads can be slick and slippery. And it gets cold.

4. Would you reccomend them to a new driver?

5. How are they for leg room? I had a knee surgery in October of 07, and I don't want my legs to be crunched up a ton. Right now I'm learning on my mom's Impala. I know I won't find a car with that much leg room. But I don't need my legs so squished that my right leg locks up on me. That would be bad.

6. Out of the options I have given, A or B, which would you see as a better fit for a new driver.

I trust my boss to make a good judgment in my first car. He won't let me buy a total piece of crap that wasn't well taken care of. And he will always be looking out for my best interests. He is like a second father to me. This is my favorite option out of all the ones he gave me. And this is the one I would like to pursue, as of now. But I want to know a little more about it.
