"Today is going to be a great year, I'm going to do great things," Drew repeated to herself in the mirror for the tenth time. She had hoped that if she kept saying this, she might have actually believed it. But so far, the mirror confidence technique felt too fake and unnatural. She wanted to be positive, after all, today was the first day of high school, a new start, a new beginning and she didn't want to start the year wallowing in last year's mistakes. Last year had been full of mistakes, Drew had always been a nice, loving person but with all the confusion of social rules and changing her personality for her peers, mixed with family trouble and stress from friends she had sort of lost herself, to be honest at this point she didn't know whom her true friends were, the only person she had left was Angela, who wasn't always the best person to be around, but Drew knew she needed her. And it was time to move on from last year, nothing was going to bring her down this year, she may have hit rock bottom once but now the only direction she could go was up. As Drew grabbed her backpack and ran downstairs towards the kitchen she paused to grab an apple whole grain bar, she had to admit they weren't as satisfying as the blueberry scones her mother made but hey, they were healthy and gave her energy. "To good health," she said with a toothy grin as she skipped out the door.

Angela finished the last thick coat of mascara on her expresso brown eyes. "I'm lookin good and ready to go," she sang softly to herself. Her singing was interrupted by an abrupt knocking at the bathroom's door. "Hurry up, I have to go, really really bad I'm gonna pee my pants!!" Angela's little sister Delia screeched. "Okay, okay!" Angela said while she opened the door and threw her hands up in submission. Delia shoved past her sister and slammed the door. "Little brat!" Angela grumbled to herself as she strode down the hallway to her room. Delia had it easy she thought, when Angela was younger, her older sister usually got her way instead of the other way around but now her parents had grown all soft with old age "Be nice to your sister, no matter how bad she gets, your the older one you can control your actions and your supposed to be the role model," they had said to her. Angela just thought it sounded stupid, when she was her age she could control her temper, age was no excuse. Besides how could Angela be a role model? Who said she had her life all figured out in the first place? As she pondered this, her thoughts were interrupted by a rendition of Dancing Queen from the musical Mamma Mia blasting from her cellphone. She glanced at the caller ID
it was Drew Bond. Angela really wasn't in the mood to talk to Drew because it felt as if Drew had been ignoring her all summer but at the moment Drew needed some support, someone to listen to her problems. Today was her first day of high school and the thought scared her half to death so she answered the phone anyway. "Hey, good morning, you ready for an awsome day! " Drew yelped through the phone in an overly peppy voice. " Um no," Angela replied slightly annoyed at the fact that Drew hadn't mentioned her abscence over the summer and also slightly by the overenthusiastic voice that showed little comparison to Angela's unenthusiatic, anxious mood, making her feel slightly dissapointed that Drew of all people wouldn't be able to relate to her nervousness but she ignored that too. "I'm scared shitless," she finished. "Well no need to be so negative, we're officially freshman we get to start life with a clean slate, chin up!" Drew cheered. Angela felt her brain fill with tension, how could Drew be so misunderstanding? Calling her negative, how dare she try to make her feel ashamed when she had every right to feel nervous on the first day of school which normally never goes as planned. Angela took a deep breath. "Oh Drew, you want to start with a clean slate forget everything that happened last year I get it but really you are a true bitch inside just like me except I'm upfront about it, your the fake one, so quit acting so innocent and living in your innocent, pity me, denial world, eventually your true colors will come out so you can quit with the whole positivity act." When Angela finished there was silence on the other line. Feeling a sense of pleasure Angela hung up the phone making sure to make her best overly peppy voice she ended her goodbye with a simple "See you at school, chin up!" Two could play at that game. Angela knew that Drew had learned that Angela was never going to let Drew forget her past. Ever.
