I edited and reedited my paragraph but still want to hear from someone else. Please read my paragraph and tell me what to change to make it better. And also please check my MLA citation. THANKS IN ADVANCE! Here is my paragraph and citation:
d'Lacey, Chris. The Fire Within. New York: Orchard Books, 2001. Print.
David Rain rents a room in the Pennykettle house in Scrubbley, Massachusetts. There he meets the owner, Elizabeth Pennykettle, her squirrel-loving daughter Lucy, their cat Bonnington, and the many clay dragons that can be found in every part of the Pennykettle house. Soon, David learns that in Scrubbley lived many squirrels and that they disappeared after a big oak tree was cut down. During a visit to the library, he finds out that a squirrel was seen in the beautiful library gardens not long ago and that his neighbor, Mr. Bonker, is trying to catch a squirrel to kill it, because it attacked his garden. When he tells this to Lucy, they both decide to look for an injured squirrel, named Conker, that Lucy saw before because she is afraid that Mr. Bonker may kill Conker. They set up a trap but caught the wrong squirrel, Snigger. They let Snigger go and reset the trap, still hoping to catch Conker and help him, “‘I [Lucy] want to save him [Conker],’” ( d’Lacey, p. 81). Meanwhile, Lucy’s birthday was coming up and David started working on her birthday gift. It was a story about Snigger and Conker and how they found their way into the Pennykettle garden and into the trap. The story also featured Caractacus, the big crow which injured Conker long ago. Strangely, the story comes to life and David and Lucy manage to catch Conker and Snigger.
This conflict is similar to what wildlife organizations all around the world are doing because in this story, David and Lucy are trying to save an injured squirrel and take it to the hospital when it is threatened to be harmed by Mr. Bonker. I would have done the same in Lucy’s and David’s place because animals, no matter how big or small, deserve to live and should not be killed. I think that it is important for people to know that because, many beautiful and extraordinary animals became close to extinction or extinct because they were killed by humans. Even though some animals are illegal to hunt, people often get blinded by the amount of money that they can receive for the animals’ fur and break the laws to kill animals. For example, the Quetzal is an endangered species but still exists even though it is heavily hunted for its magnificent tail feathers. Other animals weren’t so lucky. The Cape Lion is now extinct. The last Cape Lions were killed for just sport. I think that this should stop and that more people should help the wildlife organizations to preserve endangered species and help the other escape extinction.
