Hello! I'm 16 and I'm absolutely fascinated with the ancient world and so for my 16th birthday I really want to go to Egypt. I'm curious as to what restrictions there are concerning the Pyramids, and the Sphinx for tourists. Also considering I want to be an archaeologist and have this whole like life-plan as to what I'm going to do in order to progress toward such goals, I want to know how does one receive permission to excavate the Pyramids and the surrounding buildings. What would happen if I just decided to go into one of the Sphinx's tunnels that are supposedly dead-ends? Thanks a bunch! :)

Well, right now there are no tourists allowed due to the ongoing Revolution. I just hope they don't ruin everything, the museum was attacked yesterday and is now under military guard. I would not recommend doing anything Indiana Jones like in Egypt, they'll make a mummy out of you.

At the present moment going to Egypt is unadvised. There is rioting throughout the country and prisoners are escaping from prisons across the country. People are dying and the city is on fire so it's not exactly the best time for tourism.

Even at that, in normal times there is no way a 16 year old let alone a 16 year old tourist would be allowed to "excavate the Pyramids and the surrounding buildings". You would get arrested for that and possibly even deported. The most that tourists (And regular Egyptians) are allowed to do is visit certain areas of certain pyramids.
