I thought I’d see what the MAP people think of the upcoming election

Answer me this: why does everyone in this country bash Tony Blair for everything he does – crime, NHS, education, immigration, transport etc (and rightly so), yet the people will most likely vote in the cause of all these problems AGAIN!

Twice he has made promosis an twice he has failed and if he gets in again, he’ll fail again.

I’m so confuses
 
Who cares? Pretty much every government fails, just in different ways. All promises, never happens. It's pretty much guesswork. Even breaking it down simply shows little. At least Labour are being more conservative with their financial estimates than the Conservatives who are being a little ridiculous (not that I in any way condone Labour - always hated them!).

I would probably vote lib dem if it wasn't for the tool of a local lib dem MP.
 
the PM gets slated 'cos thats his job. He chose to spend his working life trying to prove how good a statesman he his, we pay him a handsome 5 figure salary for the rest of his life.

If things don't get better, then the PM gets stick about it, thats (apparently) is the democratic model which we are trying to export to the middle east.

Don't be confused, its quite simple really, the sort of people who have a desire to become politicians are the sort of people who need the world around them to think that they are selfless servants of the greater good.

Unfortunately, people who need other people to have this or that opinion of them, seldom have the capacity to do any good. They are too hung-up on public opinion. As a result, the timewasters with ego-problems end up bitching and fighting in public, while the rest of us get on with our lives and try to focus on the little bits of life we actually come into contact with. This results in the ideal politician being someone who can put on a public face, wear it convincingly and fool the simple audience who have been hypnotised into wishing they were the ones on the stage.

The CIA realised this in the seventies and arranged for an experiment to take place whereby a B movie actor was installed in the Whitehouse. They believed that not even the US electorate would fall for that for long, but how wrong they were! From then on the US political sphere has actually moved into the control and jurisdiction of the secret service and the accountants; thus leaving Hollywood to provide the next generation of political masters. ("They'll be back!")

chuck your cross at the paper cos it's all we've got to call our democratic right, but don't be under any illusion, the civil service are the mechanics of government and the civil service has little (if anything) to do with politics. The politicians are just the modern day equivalent of court jesters, happy smiling fools just waiting to be adored by us simple, common folk!
 
I agree with what your saying, but I think your making a rather large generalisation, and underestimating the power and influence the executives can have.

In reference to the poll, i dont think i'd ever vote Conservative. Could anyone stomach Micheal Howard as PM?

Which leaves either Lib Dem or Labour. I'm not sure about Lib Dem, they don't seem formed enough as a party to be ready enough to take over control of the country yet.

Which leaves Labour.... mmmmmnnn... well, they could be worse, couldn't they?

the two main parties are a disgrace and this disgrace is propogated by our pathetic media pandering to all that is worst about human nature.

if i want to hear childish, circular mud-slinging contests i can get a job as a dinner-lady at a primary school.

Is it too much to ask that our 'leaders' conduct themsleves with decorum and respect? (as opposed to acting like the iofftopicture, spoilt brats who we see distorting facts and serving their own interests and the interests of their party before the country they are supposed to be governing)
 
It could be worse, they could resort to out-and-out name calling like in the USA election.

Yes they could get worse, and they will.

So your willing to allow things to happen. As bad as you may think the Conservatives or Lib Dems are, they can't be worse than Labour.

We all gave Labour the benefit of the doubt in 2001 - dispite their failings, but 4 years later and things got worse. It's virtually a guarantee that trend will contiue if they stay. At least with another party there will be a chance for improvement.
 
66 individual tax rises plus more on the way
increases in violent crime an no coherent plan to stop it
the politicising of all public services and most worryingly the police
tuition fees
massive expansion of non essential public services
iraq war and whether or not you agree with its principles, TB still misled the public and the house of commons with the 45 minute claim.
millions of pounds of tax payers money, and hours and hours of parliament time spent on pointless bills such as the hunting bill
one day spent on the legislation to allow house arrest
the proposed introduction of ID cards which will cost billions and solve nothing
gordon browns continued raiding of £5 billion a year from the pension fund
red tape stopping small business growth, discouraging overseas investment, and blighting public services
national debt at all high levels with no forecasted reduction
legalisation of positive discrimination in the public sector
ignoring the MRSA threat despite repeated reports warning them about it
no coherent immigration policy
proposed adoption of the european constiution
continued support of the human rights act 1998. human right=good, current human rights act=bad

vote labour!

Being serious i will probably end up voting labour by default, but you never know, i may go with lib dem.

It's between the Lib Dems and Labour here. Personally I could do without council tax rises. I think a local income tax would be much fairer. The LDs just seem so much more... sensible! Still, at the end of the day, they're all career politicians aren't they ::sigh::
 
I understand that Max Power magazine have recently registered as candidates.

I agree with their no speed limits on motorways policy , but not sure about the fact that they have no policy on anything else.

Well, to answer that question why don't you look at the US. Look what Goerge W. Bush has managed these past four years..and he still got elected again ! I think people are afraid of change all of a sudden so they stick to what they know even if that means going for the evil again ! Not a wise move..not in the case of Tony Blair nor for Bush. I'm definitley not looking forward to the next four years concerning Bush.....

the two problems that i see with with the liberal democrats is that their sums just dont add up as not enough people earn over £100k to pay for all their ideas, and that all of their policies actively discourage achievment. earn a good salary and get taxed a ridiculous amount from income tax and then again in the salary linked local income tax, plus VAT and national insurance and stamp duty etc that you would normallypay. you will be working 3/4 of the year just to pay your taxes.
 
yeah, but the lib dems can put anything they want in the manifesto because not enough people will vote for them, so the best they can hope for is to end up in opposition.


over the next couple of decades (5 elections or so) they will continue to pull voters away from the two main parties, but i can guarantee that when they get close to being in power their policies will be much more realistic
 
I'm voting for Adam price, our local rebel MP.
But as for politicians in general?
Screw them all. Inveterate liars and men who court popular opinion without representing it.
 
Perhaps if Conservatives didn't have such a slimey bastard as their figurehead i would vote for them. But, it looks like i'll be voting for Labour by default.

Lets face it, their gonna win anyway.
 
'Others' here, but I think I didn't register due to moving house and just plain paralyzing awe at the majesty of government and the fact they want me to endorse them...

The last two elections I didn't have the choice of party I wanted so each time, I signed for my voting slip and walked out with it. The first time I was chased and the second I was sternly challenged about leaving by some old colonel-type. I walked off, leaving him there muttering with the others.

Give me a "none of the above" box to mark, please.
