On this 3.0 Liter 5 cylinder turbo-diesel it has two cooling fans on the radiator. One is mechanically attached to the water pump on the engine block. The 2nd one is electric and it turn on whenever the A/C is running or when the engine temperature reaches a high enough temperature that it needs additional cooling. The problem is the electric thermostat on the electric cooling fan is not consistently turning on at a specific temperature. It sometimes turns on early, and other times it turns on way later in the game after the engine temperature gauge creeps up close to the red zone. There is nothing else wrong with said vehicles engine cooling system.

How do I find the thermostat on this particular model vehicle? Where is it located? How can it be tested? Once I find the thermostat, is it just a simple part swap or is it difficult to reach?

On this model. How can you tell that the thermostat on the electric cooling fan wiring circuit is operating normally? I already replaced the mechanical thermostat on the water pump and it didn't make a discernible difference in engine temperature regulation.
