I just had my intake manifold and valve gaskets replaced. The mechanic used the wrong o-rings when putting back the fuel injectors so it caused a vacuum leak and within 15min of driving I got engine code p0171 for “fuel system too lean in bank 1.”

The o-rings were replaced but 2-3 days later the check engine light came back on. The mechanic can't find a leak around the intake manifold and fuel injectors ( he used starter fluid to check the old fashioned way.) This is about the 3rd time I have received the code. I should also add that the engine runs very nice and I can’t hear any air escaping or a rough idle. He stated he did not take the mass air flow sensor out for the repair.

It should be noted that I previously had code p0442 for Evaporative Emission Control Small Leak. This is due to a rusty fuel filler neck (previously diagnosed by the dealer). Is there any way that these could be related? Please help!

Also, has anyone ever used a fog machine to diagnose a possible vacuum leak? Is it safe?
