everytime you write "lol" are you really "laughing out loud"*?

or has writing "lol" become a just a habit if you think something's sort of funny? or do you ever write it even when you don't think something's very laughable?
just curious
*an audible giggle counts
 
most of the time
sometimes if i just smirk then i put "lol"
other then that i save "lol" when i actually laugh out loud
