Exchanging my phone for new one if damages and has warranty on verizon?

My lg dare's screen broke and I have the warranty through verizon. I know I will have to pay $50 to get a new one. So would I be able to get the Lg env touch env 3 or samsung rogue instead? If not...could anyone explain why my friend was able to get the enV touch when her env2 broke?
