Fantasy/Sci fi book recommendations?

I love to read and am compiling a list of books to look into, and hopefully read, in the near future. I’ve posted a different question for each “type/genre” of book I’m looking for along with examples.

I really like high fantasy or sci fi books – adventure type novels, especially series. I’m only looking for adult books, I’m not super interested found in the young adult section or specifically written for teenagers. I’ll be taking a look at everything. I’m not at all interested in crime type mystery novels or non-fiction writing. I’ve read Tolkein, Harry Potter etc and those like that that first come to your mind.
