So i figured to start here, then a few dozen other sites for a cat whisperer's solution before i throw my cat outside, all options exhausted..
My girlfriend and I have 3 cats, 2 female and 1 male, all spayed/neutered, all have a clean bill of health from vet. I maintain 3 clean litter boxes that have gone through 6 different types of litter to eliminate it as a cause. Food diet is same, experimented with a few diff foods which didnt change anything. All 3 cats are very well cared for and plenty of love & attention, all very playful and energetic. The male is a submissive doll baby absolutely loves everyone (lays upsidedown 90% of time lol). The one female is quirky and compelling with odd but humorous habits (jumps in fridge, swats straws in drinks, swats hand coming out of doritos bag lol).. Also dominant female..
The other female is extremely affectionate lap cat, very skittish, will come to you on her own but runs if you approach her, very playful at her choosing .. She also sprays anywhere she chooses, some repeat locations but no pattern.
We went on vacation for a week last month, had my mother care for them, apparently she did not spray at all while we were gone! We got back, within a couple days she was spraying. Tried all the tricks putting food or tin foil where she sprayed, to the point of 70% of the perimeters of all rooms. Worked great! She stopped spraying in those areas! Then the b#tch got a last laugh in and peed on my $500 surround sound receiver (may it rest in peace).
She has been isolated completely away from the other 2 cats for 2 weeks in a breezeway to eliminate stress and territorial issues as possible causes (they love each other cuddle/groom together but she does get bullied by the other female) Since being isolated she has sprayed 12 times in the breezeway!!
I am left to believe after eliminating every possible cause known to mankind for why a cat sprays, that she is just an f-ing head case, wiring in her brain is just not working to an 'indoor cat' level.
Am i hitting the nail on this, are there cats out there that just dont have the brain function to be indoor cats (ie no spraying indoors)? Is it an echo of stress from being bullied by sister (cat remembers stuff, i kid you not).
Only option left if no cat whisperers have answers is to open the door and let her live outside. That worries me a bit cuz all my cats are declawed.. Curious to hear any / all responses
