Figurative Language in Great Expectations?

1) "There were carved garlands on the panelled walls... i know what kind of loops i thought they looked like."
2) "There was a gay fiction among us that we were constantly enjoying ourselves, and a skeleton of truth that we never did." I'm thinking this may be a theme but I'm confused.
3) "Overcame that bad habit of living" this is a hyperbole right?
If neither of these are metaphors or any figurative language really can someone please write an example from Great Expectations by Dickens?

I had seen the damp lying on the outside of my little window, as if some goblin had been crying there all night, and using the window as a pocket handkerchief. (pg. 15 simile)
She asked me and Joe whether we supposed she was a door-mats under our feet. (pg. 103 metaphor)
