Filling up my Harley Davidson?

I was riding today and started to run out of gas, its a new bike to me so im not quite sure on the mileage yet, so i started getting low i guess.

i ride a 91 flstc and the tank has a gas hole on each side

my question is, do i need to fill both sides up? or just use one and the both holes are there for my convenience?
