religion at all? Growing up I was alway taught about this magical place called heaven where my grandpa would be waiting for me and I would be happy forever, ect. Then when I became an atheist it was incredibly depressing to deal with the realization that there is nothing after life. I kind of wish I never grew up with religion in the first place. Anyone else have this kind of experience?

yeah but for a different reason that yours. I always felt my time in church was being wasted. I would have taken more chances with my life I feel. I remember as a kid I never really bought in to the whole heaven thing.

Not really. I became an atheist at a really young age, before religion could cause any long lasting damage, so it was a pretty smooth transition.

Well your a disappointed idealist in a sense. You had all these expectations about what reality would bring for the rest of your life and after it, only for them to collapse all around you as you gave us a belief in deities. I am the same way... but I happen to like being a cynic. I like that I grew out of a system with logic and research.

i think the belief in god for some people is a way to base there lives around doing good and a way to come to grips with a loved ones passing and ease mourning... i think religion was invented to capitalize on those people for financial gain
