For those who practice polygamy in any religion?

No disrespect intended.
Please help me understand what is the importance of a plural marriage to them? A. What cause does it serve and how is it beneficial? and B. If everyone in the world was to follow this belief, assuming it's the right belief (from their perspective) wouldn't there be an enormous shortage of men since it's one man per few women and few women per one man?

Fundamental Mormons like Presidential candidate Mitt Romney believe the teachings of their cult founder,Joseph Smith,that state that women will not be granted salvation unless they are married.In addition to the appeal of promiscuous sex,this is one of the few "logical" reasons to support polygamy;of course a depraved form of adultery which Mormons are taught flourishes in heaven with God Himself currently having 1,000 (yes one thousand) wives.:o Undoubtedly all Mormon of course!:p
