Yes, I was out in the swamp yesterday doing some shooting, the skeeters were worse than I remember for this time of year, on a plus side the yellow flies are gone! Only had one tic, which is unusual too, normally the tics are pretty bad.
We have no shortage of skeeters and biting gnats. But this year was drier than normal for SE Alaska so there are less mosquitoes in some places. However the yellow jackets are real bad this year. I have found a few hundred ground nests. That’s way up from the norm. In just a few weeks it will get cold and all those guys will no longer be and issue. Funny thing is I have seen mosquitoes on a warm winter day. Crazy as this may seem I have seen it hit just above freezing with snow on the ground and a few skeeters flying around. I am mystified where they came from. All standing water is frozen then so where were they hiding?
Right now its grouse season and the biting gnats come at you in the form of clouds. Bad real bad! You can tell who are the city slickers here when you visit town. They are they ones that don’t have dozens of insect bites on their faces lol! Even pure 100% DEET bug dope won’t stop those gnats.
