Hi there, I purchased a keyless entry remote for my girlfriends 1998 Ford Escort and it's not working. Theres a few reasons and I'm not sure which it could be.

1) Her driver door does not fully close, so I am not sure if the magnetic strip connecting the door to the car is recognizing the door as closed(the light if set to "Door" mode does not turn off when you shut the door.)

2) The receiver chip is somehow broken and not picking up the signal, if so where would that even be located to look? and is it possible to replace?

3)The remote is faulty, but I have now tried 2 different remotes and they both have not done anything. So I'm doubting the remotes are bad.

The car does have keyless entry, she used to have a remote and said it stopped working. I called Ford and got them to decode my vin just to double check the part number was right on the remote, and it is. Any ideas?

The keyless remotes have batteries in them and they go bad. At least the one I had did. They (auto part stores) usually won't replace them, they would rather you pay 50.00 for another keyless remote. The batteries are not expensive and the remote can be pulled apart and put back together. The reason I did not use my key was because the alarm would go off whenever it felt like it.
I really believe its your door dude. It has to be shut to work.
