Whether I use LimeWire or Ares or whatever, I can't get them to work any more and I am sure it is to do with the Firewall, since the firewall padlock symbol appears in the bottom corner of the screen.

If I turn off Windows Firewall, there is still a problem, and when I try to allow access on the modem/router's firewall it still doesn't solve the problem - though my hunch is that I'm not doing this correctly...

Can anyone help?

A mate of mine created a hard drive partition, this allows you to place fileshre option outside the restricted parts of your computers sytems, much like putting a filing cabinet on your front lawn but keeping your house locked, not sure how he did it but if I can contact him I'll let you know.

How unfortunate. It seems you may have a possible firewall problemor bug. Some makes of computers have problems with firewall (if you have a dell then thats wh.y.)

either Limewiere or Ares, must have configuration or Settings options. there is "Passive mode" or where you can make exception in firewall option: Limewire ot Ares as trusted sites.
