Im a Malaysian muslim, currently living in Europe. My family is religious in a way that we believe god, we believe the good and the sins, and we believe in our culture, but we accept other religions and races, but just not to become one.
I have a good friend, who i started to meet when i went drinking with him. This is forbidden in Islam to drink alcohol, but i did it so i could easily blend, because from experience, not alot of europeans and americans (from my prev school) was keen on hanging out with me just coz i dont drink and dont go to pubs, a few said it was embarrassing to hang out with someone who does not drink.
But with the very good friend, he told me once that if i stop drinking, he will not hang out with me, but then he said again it was a joke. Now we have an argument and him telling me that I should not support my religion, and go out with him to drink. But realising, he's only hanging out with me just because i do drink. Not for what i am.
Im confused and not knowing how to react. And another question is, for europeans/americans, is this true about drinking and how you feel around people who does not drink??
And should i really choose what he wants to do, go out drinking and have fun? or should i stick to what my culture believes in?
