Future for Automotive Mechanics?

Is there a future for this type of job?

-Shortage of gas?
-New tech (hybrids)


Bonus question : Diesel/Industrial Technology or Automotive Technology ... which has a better future for jobs?
Im planning to go to UTI but im still not sure..

As good as any trade you can take.

Because of the automotive difficulties, problems borrowing money, and the downfall of big gas guzzlers, people will be hanging onto their vehicles a lot longer so they will be breaking down more often and many of the vehicles will no longer have warranties.
Therefore, mechanics will have to become more 'old-school' in their work because a lot of cars will need work that uses more ingenuity and parts that are harder to come by.
New mechanics will have to learn to weld again because they'll be fixing the part rather than replacing it with a new/refurbished one all the time.

yes...people will always have to drive and in your lifetime there will be tens of millions of regular old gas cars on the road because the cost of hybrids won't come down that fast. and i'd say automotive tech
