FMIL has whined to FH that whenever she visits, I never have food around, never offer to cook for her, never ask her if she wants anything to eat or if she is thirsty. I say that I am not her nursemaid and that he son can do all that for her. I have two jobs, am in grad school and have an internship. By the time I get home, I have already eaten, I am dead tired and the last thing I want to deal with is FMIL and then her stupid complaints. I don't know why she thinks I would cater to her like that when she is a grown woman. She should eat before she comes over!

Well it is polite to offer guests a drink, at lest. I usually have something around (cheese and crackers at the least).
She should not expect you to cook for her but it is quite rude not to offer guests even a drink.
