Ganja

Promotion and sensationalization of pot yes, but clear rational discussion no. We've had a topic on this before. The problem is if anyone makes a valid point in its favor he gets jump flamed as a pothead worthless stoner piece of fecal material.

If you have glaucoma, fine. Muscular Distrophy fine. Loss of weight thru chemotherapy I can understand. Some people don't like pills. Some prefer a more natural means of alleviating their symptoms. Personally I'm in that boat. I'm from a very anti-pill family, and honestly.. I'd say if it came down to me having to chow down on a handful of pills per day to keep my appetite up or self medicate myself on grass.. I'd go with the grass.

It does believe it or not have some valid uses in todays society. Declaration of Independence, the document that smacked Britain across the face is scribed on hemp paper. Thomas Jefferson, George Washington both grew it... Well their slaves did I should say..

Its an over-hyped drug that shouldn't be in the same category as heroin, cocaine or methamphetamine. It doesn't have a LD50 that the average human can easily OD on, its serves a multitude of uses. Handy plant.. demonized through a sensationalist era in the US in the 20's.

What do you want to know about it?

I had a friend. A close friend. Nicest, sweetest guy you could ever imagine. Woke up to the stuff, smoked all day when he could and had to have a pipe before bed.

He's 43 years old now and has not gotten past his high school days. Just last year he left the same job he ad since high school, started a business with another guy. Today, I can't find him. No answer at his cell or home #, no answer to my emails. He's either in jail again or so far down he can't get out.
Reason he's no longer that close is because I can not expose my children to that kind of lifestyle. And because I can't condone it. He has accomplished nothing with his life.

That ought to tell you how I feel about it.

I don't like the idea of becoming dependent on some foreign agent, but then again there is MAP. Apparently it causes paranoia and scyzophrenia, so it can't be that good. However, I do agree that marajuna can be used for medicinal purposes i.e. a person who suffers from chronic arthritis and is in constant pain should be allowed to use marajuna if it is easing or releaving pain.

I am not sure if that constitutes as promoting marajuna, but I do see my point as ethically sound, though it is for others to decide if I endorsed it. If I have I apologise.

It can bring out paranoia and schitzophrenia. But as far as creating it in a perfectly normal person no. But if the traits are already there, it may and can bring them out.

I've never had a problem with any of my cannabis smoking friends.

I've had a million and one problems with "friends" and alcohol.

I don't know the ins and outs, but I've seen lots and lots of arguments, violence, fighting and casual sex all alcohol-fuelled. And I wonder how the Hell that can be legal but cannabis can't be because its "bad" - And the best argument I get thrown at me all the time "Cannabis is a drug!" - So are the cigarettes your smoking, the vodka your downing and the paracetamol's and morning-after-pill you'll take tomorrow when you wake up hungover next to an ugly stranger!

Here's something I had posted on another forum on the subject.

With respect to casual use in some cases; for example, Native Americans, who are predisposed to have a genetic problems with alcohol it might be a less harmful recreational alternative.

There's no evidence that it causes schizophrenia, the evidence points to it making psychosis that is already present worse. If that vulnerability isn't there, (as in about 98%+ of the population) then it won't happen, if that vulnerability is there then it's going to come out anyway. Cannabis just makes psychosis worse, it doesn't cause it. You can certainly get paranoid on cannabis, but the paranoia only tends to affect you when you are intoxicated.

It does slow your reflexes, sap your motivation and blunt your emotions, if taken on a daily basis. So it's probably not a great idea for someone who wants to study martial arts.

im sure all the cheese burgers, candy bars, and soda that the average person drinks is alot more harmfull to you than marijuana.
heres some good info for everyone to read

My take:

I grew up with a bunch of dope-smoking kids.

Some of them smoked and still smoke every day and have piddled away the first 20-30 years of their lives. No goals, no progression, no motivation, etc. Most didn't graduate high school, and went on to not graduate college and now are working on not getting promoted at work, or finding a meaningful, well paying job. I don't think it's because of "the ganj," but because they were lazy, unmotivated people who didn't want to do anything but smoke dope and drink beer.

I have other friends who smoked and still smoke every day, and succeeded in high school and their personal lives, went on to succeed in and graduate college, and have gone on to live productive, meaningful, and somewhat wealthy lives. I know a guy who is a programmer now. I know an IT guy. I know a guy who is a writer, and toured with an improvisational poetry group. I also know some damn good MA'ists who do. I don't think it's because they smoked pot, but because they were motivated intelligent people who wanted to do productive things that would help them to grow.

That being said, I don't think it's really going to increase your odds of succeeeding in anything.

I was raised on a diet of personal responsibility. Sue me.

for meditation some find it helpful, some find it pointless..

for hemp seeds, some find it a great source of protien, though illegal to grow hemp (non-thc) in america

it can help cancer patients and gliecoma patients

on the meditation part... are you truly meditating or just really stoned?

In terms of 'great' sources of protein... I am sure there are quite a few readily available sources of protein that are legal and accessable. Why bend over backwards to find a source of protein?

Mister K - well said, sir!

I know lots of people who do it, and none of them are shining examples of how to live your lives. I know people will argue not everyone ends up this way just because they do marijuana or cannabis, but in my experience, every single one of them has ended up this way:

They don't pay any attention to their studies, and even when they do, they don't know what's going on and don't understand. They consistently get appalling results in tests and homework, and are expected to fail their A Levels. Most of their time seems to be spent gossiping or talking about the latest clothes they've bought, or discussing the next party which occurs every other evening during which they all stand about and smoke and get off with people and basically that's it. Their conversation is unintelligent and they're the most retarded people I've ever met. I'm serious. If I had a quid for every time in class they've come out with something idiotic... They can't even read and write properly... Think Big Brother standard of stupidity here. Do you know what one of them came out with the other day? "Uh... yeah... Downing Street is where the President lives, innit." Apart from that, their moral values seem to be practically non-existent. All they seem to care about is bagging a nice rich boy from the local private school. One time, I heard them talking about a girl and they were actually criticising her for going out with a boy from this private school who had a scholarship - i.e. he was a genius, but he wasn't rich. I find that kind of attitude disgusting. I really have to hold back from just whacking them over the head with sledgehammers whenever I hear them start to speak like that. At the very least I have the strong urge to rubber stamp them all on the forehead with permanent ink "WARNING" just to give those poor guys a chance.

They have no future, no moral standards, and no depth. Most of the time they're completely off their heads and would rather party and do yet more drugs and smoke and drink themselves into unconsciousness, than do some studying so they'd actually pass their A Levels. That's not the worst of it. There's one person I know, who I used to be friends with, who now does cannabis and marijuana, and when they're stoned they undergo a completely personality change. They suffer violent mood swings, they become irritable and snappy and even get into physical fights with people.

From my experience of these people therefore, I could never admire them and never pursue that kind of lifestyle. At best, I'd say I have a vehement contempt for them. At worst, it would be fair to say that I hate them so much I wouldn't hesitate in erasing this blight on the human race from existence if I had that power.

I'd never take it myself, not just because I never want to end up like that, but also because I made a moral pledge to myself long ago not to (and also never to take up smoking and never to drink alcohol to excess), and I take those kind of promises to myself very seriously.

Rag - Sorry to point this out, but those alcoholic people you mentioned, are idiots. They're either idiots for drinking that much, or if they didn't drink that much, then they're just plain idiots because who would go around getting violent and having casual sex. My friends and I drink alcohol, I don't mind admitting that, and yeah we've got drunk a few times. But at the end of an evening we're all still standing, in thoroughly high spirits, and have never instigated any violence or had cases of casual sex. Maybe because we're smart enough not to get completely smashed out of our heads, but the problems of alcoholism can be avoided simply by knowing when to say when, and milions of people do it every day. The number of bad incidents occurring from drink are not insignificant, I admit it, but in comparison to the millions who drink responsibly, they are a very tiny percentage indeed - in many cases young people who don't know how much they can handle or who are simply stupid enough and at that kind of age to think that it'd be fun to drink that much.

come off it people.
enough of the soapboxing against casual sex.
who are you kidding - the lot of you would most likely bend over backwards to get a leg over if you could. In fact most of people have spent a very good part of their lives going after 'casual sex' if they're really honest with themselves.

So please - hop out of your ivory towers and come down to earth.
