Ah some wise people who are not 100% ignorant.

I find its odd that if people stick up for it, everyone who dislikes it accuses us of "promoting it". People need to do their research and make their choices, rather then relying on misguided commercials. Where are all the commercials about meth, coke, crack, opiets and pharmacudical drug abuse?

1. This article shows that people who have smoked cannibis within the past week are less likely to be injured in an accident than someone who's drunk alcohol within the past six hours. To put it another way - someone who's pished (on beer or whatever) is more likely to be injured than someone who smoked cannabis a few days ago. Genius!

2. This article shows that certain cannabinoids (but not THC - the active ingredient in smoked cannabis) can attack cancer cells. This says nothing about recreationally smoking cannabis being beneficial in the slightest. Lots of illegal drugs are used medicinally in very specific circumstances (morphine being the obvious example), that doesn't mean that administering them yourself is a good way to a healthy life.

This is the big thing that winds me up about some pro-legalisation debators. There always seems to be this implied link between (for example) the fact that THC relieves certain symptoms of multiple sclerosis and the idea that the government should hand out a phatt J to every sufferer (and everyone else while they're at it). What we need is a safe and effective way to administer the active components of a drug to exactly where they're needed with minimum interference with other systems. Penicilin has done wonders for medicine, but we don't just hand out mould to each sick person - it's refined and made useful. If it helps, this is how we should be delivering THC, not just by posting a bong to every cancer sufferer.

Well, let's be honest, Moosey- what did you expect from a site set up to specifically promote the legalization of cannibas? Its not as though they are going to be 1.) scientifically accurate or responsible or 2.) present the down sides.

Just because cannibas is found to be beneficial in a few situations does not mean that is it beneficial in all situations. Opium is beneficial to people in extreme pain. Does that mean it should be legal to go to the local drug store and buy opiates over the counter? The argument that cannibas should be legalized because it prevents nausia for cancer patients or helps those in chronic pain or helps glaucoma patients is not logical. If it becomes legal, then it is a prescription only occurance, and much like opiates, will become a highly gaurded prescription. It won't be street legal.

Also, as said, one cannot make a logical argument that it should be legal because alcohol is legal. Should we make murder legal because driving in bad weather conditions is legal? Should we make slavery legal because dogs are legal? After all, bad weather conditions kill more people then murders. And you can own a dog, why not own a human?

I have seen only one valid argument for legalization, but have yet to see it here. The arguments that have been presented so far are very weak, in my opinion.

I don't get the analogy... driving in bad weather is a personal choice that doesn't affect anyone else. It is legal. Owning a dog is a personal choice that doesn't affect anyone else. It is legal. Murder and slavery have obvious negative effects on other people, which is the reason they are illegal.


Drinking alcohol is a personal choice that can affect other people, in the wrong circumstances.... in exactly the same way that smoking can. Yet one is illegal and one is not.

Smoking cannabis is a personal choice. The burden of proof is not on those in favour of decriminalization, it is on those who want to keep cannabis illegal when exactly the same arguments for and against the criminalization of cannabis can be applied to alcohol and tobacco.

Uh, yeah. Chemotherapy kills cancer cells too, maybe everyone should be exposed to high doses of radiation?

The difference is, Chemo sucks, and anything that reduces the need for it with little in the way of side effects can only be a good thing.

That's a given but showing that it has "cancer fighting properties" by highlighting the fact that certain chemicals in it can cause cell instability makes me wonder what they're smoking.

There are 100s of sites promoting the legalisation of marijana that are backed up with scientific envidence. Not all recreational weed smokers are brain dead criminals.

please make a constructive argument... including both sides of the argument, primary resources and other forms of evidence.

yes, it can cause problems for adolescents (its expensive, and reduces short term memory while smoking it... reducing productivity in schools... and its actually unhealthy for teens... compared to adults (which the symptoms are not found in).

however, with data... you have to look at bias factors. are they drinking? is this causing the issues? are they on coke? are these causing issues?? do they have other issues etc?

it has better forms then smoking (eating or using a vaporizer) that reduces the smoke to near 1% (eating 0%)...

THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT ITS LINKED TO LONG TERM MEMORY LOSS, CANCER OR BRAIN DAMAGE. however, short term memory loss... is like drinking.. you cant remeber everything you did when drunk or study and remeber the facts.

Same as alcohol IMHO.
Too much over a sustained period and you can get hooked. (Well, not hooked - you just do it cause you want to and could quit anytime if you felt like it.)
Occasional use and it's fine.
But not when driving, doing MA, or anything else that could hurt somebody if you miscalculated.
A Uni friend was well into it, and he got a better degree than me.
I don't know anybody who takes it these days (except a friend's hubby who takes anything and beats her up, and our neighbourhood drug dealers two doors down who are nice people).

careful what you say about alcohol addiction rates, you should do your research.

cocaine (n crack), tobacoo, heroine (opiets), all have addiction rates of over 25% (this means 1/4 people will have physical and mental addictions. this means if they quit, not only will they crave it, but their physical bodies will crave it).

alcohol is slightly lower, i can't find statistics for some reason on google for addiction rates. if i remeber, its around 15-20%... however it to gives both a physical and mental addiction. thats why you cant say people can simply quit... its not possible because their bodies require it in the short term... and thats why people have health issues/psycho issues after quiting (physical withdrawels)...

marijuana has less then a 3% addiction rate... and only has mental withdrawels ... meaning... you crave it... but your body does not. this means your body does not go into shock when you quit... you just miss the munchies.

again.... MARIJUANA CANnot kill people. however, drinking and driving does. however it does hurt your short term memory while high, so your memorization is worse. your reflex times might be worse. IF YOU THINK IT HURTS YOUR ABILITIES TO DO ANYTHING, THEN YOU PROBABLY NEVER SMOKED IT.

most marijuana users i know, play sports, go to school, teach, drive, etc while high. YOU COULD NOT DO THESE THINGS ON COCAINE, ALCOHOL, HEROINE or psychadelics. all the stuff about getting high and hurting others while driving.... WHERE DO YOU GUYS GET YOUR STATISTICS?

the number one cause is alcohol, not marijuana and driving. hence... the term drunk driving.

update: there are rare diseases in males in asia that are alergic to marijuana however, which then they shouldn't use it... somewhat like an alergy to strawberries or dairy. however if it is illegal people cannot get tested for such allergies. if it is illegal people have to trust dealers rather then government regulation... this means someone could sell you bad stuff.

WHY DOES AMERICA SPEND SO MUCH MONEY ARRESTING MARIJUANA AND NOT COCAIN/HEROINE/EXTACY USERS? its retarded.

Hallucinogens of any type tend to have low addictive properties; most don't even produce mental addictions. It's an odd class of drugs in that respect. The reasons for not producing mental addictions are pretty simple, hallucinogens are very unpredictable, so it's not always fun and games when you use them, at times it can be downright terrifying. Marijuana is one of the lightest drugs in this class but in high doses can produce effects similar to LSD (true hallucinations), however, the duration is much shorter (roughly half the time).



It’s highly unlikely that anyone would ever truly overdose on marijuana like they do with cocaine, heroin etc… However IT DOES IMPAIR YOU, IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE OR PERFORM OTHER ACTIVITIES THAT YOU WOULD REFRAIN FROM IF YOU WERE DRINKING. Your perception of what is happening is way off; a single bong hit is far worse then a one ounce shot of alcohol. Habitual users of any drug eventually develop a certain level of compensation to allow them to function, but just barely so: The charge is DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE, not drunk driving.

The big difference between alcohol and marijuana is the malaise that marijuana leaves and the fact that marijuana is a fat-soluble substance while alcohol is a water-soluble substance. Alcohol gives you a hangover which may last you to two days in the extreme cases, marijuana leaves you in a lethargic, apathetic state for around five days after use.



They spend equal amounts on illegal drug enforcement, marijuana is not singled out. Although some states, like Arizona go way overboard on enforcement and sentencing: I don’t want Bill the habitual armed robber to get lighter sentencing so that they have room for ole’ pothead Bob in prison.
