God has a sense of humor?

I have been told that I am created in gods image and that if I have a sense of humor then so does god. If I think something is funny then on some level do does god. Why do people take this stuff so seriously. If you are created in a human image by someone who has human problems (i.e. rage, jealousy, a tendency toward genocide) that are in many cases easily overcome, then why get so upset by other people and their thoughts and ideas? Is it really all about control?
