oka- since its too many buttons- ive been playing the game with my gameshark- dont judge me lol. however- 4 weeks later-i am at the second battle with Ares with no magic- just this sword. Even though technically i cant die- i die anyways. and I cant get lose to Ares or anything. Is it like- on the final boss you have to play legit or what? Please i could use some help considering this is the first game ive played since crash bandicoot! so what do i do to get rid of Ares?
i am trying to beat him with the cheat codes on- do i have to beat them with them off? or can i do so with them on? because i cannot seem to beat him.

LOL! Yeah, this is way too much of a skip from Crash to GOW. In fact, you should play one of Crash's newer games called Crash of the Titans and Crash Mind Over Mutant to get a hang of slightly more complex gameplay (it's simpler than GOW) and that way, you can graduate to God of War. It's quite different, Crash now. But if you have an open mind with it, you'll like it (and consider this: Crash used the same formula for 5 games and got low scores, so it changed to renew itself and become better).
Here's a video for a taste of the gameplay (and this is one of the best parts of the respective game): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ7dDyP3ae0
Yes, it's a bit silly, but it's for kids, and a lot of fun (and wasn't Crash 1 also kinda kiddy? Except the jokes were in the background).

You get a new move set with the sword and you basically have to get your hits in where you can. You both share the same health meter, so you can beat him if you're cautious. You really can't do a full combo on him because he doesn't flinch and he assaults you when you try. When Ares flies up to the top of the screen and starts lobbing firestones at you, he actually launches them where you are headed, so when he does let go of them, try to anticipate where he is going to thrown them.
