Jun 21, 2010 #2 S Steven Member Joined May 12, 2008 Messages 702 Reaction score 0 Points 16 the diagonal is the hypotenuse of a right triangle if the original square is 1^2 then the hypotenuse is sqrt2 so the area of the new square is (sqrt2)(sqrt2) which is 2 the ratio of the areas is 2:1
