I'm talking about the new 8 GB $199 version, though I suppose much applies to the 16 GB.

Adverts talk about it being useful as an E-reader, but I can't find a list of what formats it supports?

.PDF, txt, and html are most important to me.

Please tell me more. I know it has the quad-core processor, but otherwise how does it compare with the Kindle Fire in other respects, like Fire's text-to-speech program?

Bonus Question, what version of Android does this Google 7 use? Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich? Something else?

It supports Barnes and Noble and Amazon E-Reader formats as well as Google E-Reader formats. The speech to text is similar to Apple Siri. It is much better on this tablet since it uses voice to speech recognition. You can use speech on many applications like mapping, texting, internet searches etc. It is much better than on the Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire is not a true android tablet since it runs Amazon customize interface.

The Google Nexus 7 tablet runs 4.1 which is Jelly Bean and is better than ice cream version 4.0
