I recommend the Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold. I also recommend the Pern books by Anne McCaffrey.

Hi I am looking for some recommendations on some great sci fi book series. Even a stand alone book would be welcomed. Please dont recommend a series over 5 books long unless you believe it is REALLY good. Also I lean towards liking space opera types the best. Thanks :)
Anything thats not in the young adult category?

I'm not a big fan of space opera, but if you are I would suggest The Star Kings and Return to the Stars, by Edmond Hamilton. They are fairly old so the science seems kind of silly, but they are the best books in the Buck Rogers tradition I have ever come across.

If you want high quality science fiction, try Gateway and its equals.

Epic:
About a group of teens who are in a world where your life is controlled by your success in a video game. Really good. There's a sequel named Saga.

Incarceron:
About a prison that's alive and that watches its inmates. Extremely suspenseful/fast paced and w/ great plot and characters. There's a sequel named Sapphique.

The Hunger Games:
A trilogy about a future world in which teens are forced to kill each other for entertainment.
