2 large sweet onions,chopped
6 cloves garlic,minced
1/4 cup olive oil
2 teaspoons dried oregano
2 teaspoons dried basil
2 tablespoons dried parsley flakes
black pepper to taste
cayenne pepper to taste
salt to taste
1 teaspoon brown sugar
2 lbs ground beef
1 jar Ragu sun-dried tomatoes and basil
1 jar Barilla marinara with olive oil and garlic
1 jar Classico 4 cheese pasta sauce
1 can Contadina tomato paste with Italian herbs
1 lb mozzarella cheese
1 lb provolone cheese
1 lb Asiago cheese
1 lb ricotta cheese
1 cup grated Parmesan and Romano cheese
1 box Barilla no-boil lasagna sheets
Saute onions over low heat in olive oil until soft, then add garlic and saute until onions are golden brown and garlic is blonde - stir so they don't burn. Add meat and brown.Drain fat off. Add herbs, pepper, and salt if desired, then add tomato paste and let it fry for several minutes. Stir in 2 cups of water, the jars of pasta sauce and the sugar. Simmer over low heat for about 30 minutes. Taste and adjust seasonings if desired.
Cover the bottom of a 9 by 11 inch baking pan with sauce. Put a layer of the cheeses over the sauce ( you can use slices or shredded),then put a layer of noodles, then sauce, then noodles, then cheese, etc.continue until all noodles are used or pan is full.Cover top of noodles completely with sauce and cheese. Sprinkle parsley and black pepper on top.Cover with foil and bake at 375 for about an hour, then remove foil and let the cheese brown for a few minutes. Remove from oven and let rest for 20 minutes while you make your garlic bread and salad. Enjoy!
Ok, first, look at the box of the noodles, That will give you a base. If you want to make your own sauce, take canned tomatoes and seasonings and stuff. And instead of meat, try vegetables, like egg plant or maybe broccoli. And just tweak with flavors and different recipes. Sorry, best I could do.
