Hello, I have just bought a guitar, and I checked some tutorials in youtube. The problem is when I hold a string and in the mean time in try to play that string..there's no sound coming.
Either your 'action' is too high so the strings are too high off the frets, which makes it sound like a tap on wood or something like that.
Another thing might be where you're holding the string. Make sure you hold it as close to the metal fret without actually having your finger over the fret. Have it just behind it.
if its an electric guitar, make sure the volume and tone is turned up on the guitar and the amp. this could be the solution.
if it's not that, maybe your not pressing down hard enough on the string. also make sure that you aim to hit slap bang in between the frets and not on the actual fret bars.
