Guitar players - a newbie needs help with theory and scales and the like?

I've been teaching myself for 2 years after only 4 lessons or so (money issues) and I promised myself that if I ever got a teacher again, I'd start at the beginning (not as basic as "Name The Strings," mind you). I'm seeing my guitar teacher in about a week for my first lesson, but I'm trying to get into scales and theory and modes and all of that. Where should I begin? I have this book called "Scales and Modes In The Beginning" but it's too advanced for me at the moment. I've been told to first try the "CAGED" system and look into that. I'm also confused on scales; I've been learning the major scales in 1st position (pretty sure that's right), but after that.... blank...

Any help in pointing me in the right direction will be fantastic.

If I were you, I would just wait for your guitar teacher to help you, because if you're getting confused, and you learn that way, it's going to be harder to learn than if you just didn't learn it in the first place.
