Gun Control

Obviously you aren't an American. Our Constitution is hardly a "crock". The US Constitution did not "condone" slavery young man; it may have been interpreted that way by the Courts, but there is not one word in there which gives folks the right to own slaves (go read Dred Scott; it was an interpretive argument based on the political culture at the time, it was not a real legal argument). The only mention of slavery in the Constitution would be the Reconstruction Amendments which prohibit it.

Go read the damn thing before you shoot off your mouth to lawyers and NRA members. We do know our rights.

Crikey GC! I haven't even thought of Dred Scott since I was in college. Touche' sir! I may not be a lawyer or an NRA member, but I have been involved with both! 2 thumbs up!

Article 2 Section 1 Clause 3:

"The number of Representatives for each state depends on its population, but each state is entitled to at least one Representative. The population of a state originally included all "free persons", three-fifths of "other persons""

Are you saying that those 'other persons' are not slaves?

Def: Condone "To overlook, forgive, or disregard (an offense) without protest or censure."

Very Nice, I coudn't have said it better. I have a CCL and carry where ever I can legally every day, I've never committed a crime and never will.

Yes. It's a sufferage/census clause. African-Americans, Indians, Mexicans, none of them were considered "citizens" under the law (until the ratification of the Reconstruction Amendments). By the time the US Constitution was ratified, we had already had dealings not just with African Americans, but the indigenous peoples of the Americas and the Mexicans. The only mention of "slavery" in the Constitution prior to the Reconstruction Amendments is Art. I., Sec. 9, Clause 1, which created a tax and duty system on slaves in order to discourage the practice (in 1774, prior to the Constitution, there was an actual attempt to make it illegal, but it didn't follow into the actual Constitution; the duty was a compromise to discourage the practice). As a matter of fact, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, and most of the Northern States expressly prohibited the slave trade.

And you cited the text incorrectly, by the way. It's Article 1, Section 2. Article 2 is the Exectutive Branch, Article 3 is the Judiciary. Article 1 is the Congressional/Legislative Branch, which is the Article in question.

BAM!!!
Legal eagle on the scene!

I take back everything bad I ever said about public defenders.

I just woke up a bit ago, and my 1911 goes on when my pants do. I haven't left the house yet, and I'm going to a wedding today (can't carry in places of worship in GA), so my pistol will stay in the car during the wedding then go back in my holster after it's over. I was never a Boy Scout, but the idea that it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it makes it worth carrying around a 3.5lb piece of steel at all times to me. I also carry a pocket knife, wear a seat belt, and have a set of tools and flashlight in my car at all times. America is far from perfect, but at least she generally sees fit to allow her citizens to protect themselves (especially since the Supreme Court has ruled it is not law enforcement nor the military's job to protect us).

I carry a pocket knife, wear a seatbelt, have the tools + flashlight and a disposable camera in the car but instead of a 1911 in my car I have a rather large and heavy ended spanner.

Do you realize the level of ignorance you are showing? Just the fact that you can ask that question shows exactly how clueless you are.

The only type of person that can truly enjoy hurting or killing is a sociopath. That is: Someone who actually totally lacks the ability to feel guilt, empathy, compassion or love.

You might want to read up on what it takes to become a peace officer. I've been through numerous tests of all sorts, medical, psychological, physical, oral reviews, I have even been interrogated and had every aspect of my personal life put under a microscope. That's all before entering the academy. The next step is 18-20 weeks of what amounts to boot camp with much higher academic standards. Any major screw ups and you're out, the agency who sponsored you can send you back but you repeat the whole thing from the beginning. Then you get to ride with a field training officer for a minimum of two to three months. Once you pass their on the job evaluations you are officially a peace officer.

The chances of someone deeply disturbed getting through all of that, much less having the will to go through it are real slim.

Awww, that's so sweet. Can we now get back to the thread about gun control and stop with the other crap?

I don't mind talking about Sarge's tool, I just don't want to keep debating Con Law with someone who ain't properly armed

I like guns. They're fun Especially Sarge's

Wait a minute! This is about gun control? Oh, in that case no one should have the right to own one. I thought this thread was about firearms.

Come on now lets get our terms straight. What BC has so proudly displayed is an Artilery Piece. The sidearms many of us are so fond of carrying are Firearms, side arms, pistols, or (in the hood) Gaks, unless you are hunting then we can use rifle or even high powered rifle if it makes you feel better. Now the short arm GC is interested in is a gun.

Everyone repeat after me: This is my rifle, this is my gun! This is for fightin, this is for fun! Please add apropriate hand gestures.

That is all, carry on with your discussion.
