Handheld Gaming Consoles?

I will be doing a presentation on how technology has impacted entertainment today, and being a gamer I will be talking about videogames. Now, I know almost everything there is to know, however as you all may know videogames are divided into generations. I wanted to know which generation introduced handheld gaming (GameBoy I think). I know that NES is 3rd generation, but I'm not sure if GameBoy came out the same time.
 
The original GameBoy came out in 1989, which places it firmly in the fourth generation. Though to be fair, the first actual handheld video game console with interchangeable game cartridges was the Microvision (by Milton Bradley) from 1979 (and their were single-game handhelds out as early as 1977).

did u know what just go to wikipedia and type in handheld gameconsoles they will till u every thing u will ever want ur presentation will be for about 6 hours.
