handheld singer sewing machine?

i've had it for like a year and im trying to use it now. it sews and crap but the thread gets all effed up (makes a loop on the other side of fabric) and once i pull the thread it all falls apart. what am i doing wrong?

it's a singer handheld one (with red on top & white on bottom.)
 
I just got the same one today it messed everything up it keeps jamming you have to hand tie it its a complete waste of money in my experiences with it.Your probably doing it right the machine justs sucks.
