i have a sportster 883 low and i notice on some bikes like choppers and some other harleys that when they shift it makes like a growling sound and it sounds badass i was wondering what do you have to do to make that sound my bike doesnt do it i have the stock tranny do i need like an upgraded tranny? like a baker? i have vance and hines pipes with a big air cleaner thanks

Its likely that what you are hearing is not a matter of different hardware, but possibly a matter of different riding/shifting styles among riders. When you shift, do you back off the throttle, pull in the clutch and make gear selection?

I ask, because I think what you are hearing is someone "speed-shifting" their bike. Basically, pulling in their clutch lever without coming off the gas. This would generate that growl between shift that you spoke of. What is happeneing is that, for a brief second, their motors are still being fed higher RPM's via the throttle, but the tranny is in neutral, allowing the exhaust to growl as they select their gear.

Hope this helps & stay safe!!!!
