Has anyone else found that Spotify makes their internet connection really slow?

I just downloaded that new music thing called Spotify and immediately my internet connection got so slow I could hardly use it.

I've deleted the program and now things seems to have speeded up again.

Even when the program was completely closed it must have still been doing something in the background with my connection. Sneaky.

I have also noticed that After installing Spotify my PC with Win-7 has had a very slow upstart (about 2 min.s more than before). Using joblist I have noticed that Spotify occupies about 53.000 kb of memory (internet-explorer ocupies about 40.000 kb). I would like to know if I can close down Spotify for periods where I don't use it ?
