Has anyone had the idea of solar-powered street lights?

Since there is so much pollution and energy wasting going on in the world, hasn't anyone thought of using more solar-powered lights? What I mean is, we don't need street lamps during the day when its light, but during the night, couldn't it be possible to replace the current street lamps with solar-powered ones?
