Has anyone tried the toothpaste trick with a scratched dvd or game?

My FF12 disc freezes everytime after a certain boss battle and i'm curious if what i've read on the internet about the toothpaste trick works. Or does any one else have any tricks. The disc doesn't look that scratched but it freezes in both my ps2s so i guess it must be ruined. Normally I would just shrug it off but i've invested 30+ hours in the game.
 
Actually, I Have I Only Do It With My PS2 And PC Game's, Not My PS3 Or Xbox 360 One's, It Actually Work's, It Clean's The Disc Pretty Good And It Get's The Game Running Well.
 
it works sometimes, but sometimes it makes it worse
do if you want to take the risk
 
I doubt it will work. Discs are sensitive to scratches and some chemicals.
